Who guards public safety when trusted institutions fail?
Boris Treyzon,
that’s who.
Guardians of Safety: How Trial Lawyers Hold Corporations Accountable for Negligence
To Boris Treyzon, founding partner and lead trial attorney at ACTS Law, the law exists to ensure that a person’s or company’s power does not determine legal outcomes.
ACTS Law, a premier California-based personal injury law firm, has handled high-stakes litigation across its five locations nationwide since 2016. 2026 marks their ten-year anniversary: a decade of helping their clients achieve justice across a wide array of personal injury cases – from catastrophic injury and wrongful death to medical malpractice, sexual abuse, and much more.
“What attracted me to law was the ability to level the playing field,” Boris says, reflecting on his more than 20 years of trial law experience.
“Once you walk into the courtroom, there are no preferences. There is a plaintiff and there is a defendant. [The] outcome of the trial is determined by the ability of the lawyer, the empathy of the story, the law, and very little else.”
As one of the nation’s top trial lawyers, Boris’ main priority is to ensure his client’s voice is heard – and he does that by careful, impactful storytelling that not only describes the truth of the matter but evokes empathy too.
“I get to tell the story of my client – what their life was like before, what their life is like now, and what their life will be going forward,” says Boris. “When we go into trial, we go to war. And war takes preparation, discipline, and focus. It’s grueling hours. We agonize over the tiniest details.”
Boris sees the courtroom as one of the few places where status, wealth, and influence are meant to disappear.
“The law plays the great equalizer,” Boris says. “Everybody’s equal before the law. You can be a down-on-your-luck individual or you can be a giant corporation. Everybody’s treated equal. That’s what attracted me to law.”
Empathy isn’t Optional – it’s Foundational
While Boris compares his trial prep to war readiness, his approach to client relationships remains heartfelt. From his point of view, trial law is inseparable from empathy.
“In order to be a great lawyer, you have to have empathy,” he says. “You cannot be a cold monolith who just views humanity from a distant viewpoint.”
That belief shapes how he prepares every case. “Before trial, I’ll go to my client’s house, I’ll sit with them, [and] I’ll meet with their families. [Because] in order to tell a story, you have to live the story.
“These are people that have trusted their story to us,” Boris says. “And we take that responsibility very seriously.”
Giving a Voice to Someone Who Couldn’t Speak for Themselves
This responsibility was directly put into practice when he tried Guzman vs. Avalon Foods – a prime example showcasing how justice can hinge on whether a trial lawyer can successfully advocate for a client.
Especially when that client cannot speak for themselves.
“[That case] was one of the most unique cases I have ever tried,” Boris recalls. “I had zero exhibits because there was no proof. My only witness was my client, who had suffered a severe brain injury.”
As a result, it was paramount that Boris led the jury to understand what the injury meant – not just what happened, but what life looked like for his client following the injury.
“My job was to tell them about my client and the story that led to his severe brain injury, knowing my only evidence was that [my client] could not tell a lie because of that brain injury,” Boris remembers.
At the end of the trial, when the verdict was read, the court stated that the corporation was found liable for the man’s injuries. This moment impacted Boris for years to come.
“The look of happiness and tears and love in [my client’s] eyes will stay with me forever,” Boris says.
Making History: Justice Attained for Survivors of Sexual Abuse
One of the most emotionally difficult and consequential cases of Boris’ career involved survivors of sexual abuse in Los Angeles County juvenile detention facilities.
“It was one of the most complicated cases I’ve ever been involved with,” notes Boris. “We [were] dealing with victims going back decades who had been marginalized, disregarded, and frankly, swept under the rug of today’s society.”
The survivors were children who had previously violated the law in one way or another and, as a result, were put into custody by the County. Detention centers like these are commonly referred to as ‘juvie.’
“It’s a prison for children. There, the county was responsible for their safekeeping. Instead, it exposed them to predators – horrible human beings who mercilessly abused these kids,” Boris explains.
For Boris, the case was about restoring victims’ dignity and acknowledging the harm that had long been ignored.
“We gave them a voice,” he recalls. “We allowed them to talk about their trauma. More importantly, we [gave] the County [the opportunity] to make amends for [employing] these horrible humans who mercilessly abused these kids.”
Moving forward, the settlement won by the ACTS Law team, in collaboration with other California trial law firms, provides victims with ongoing resources that will assist them in reclaiming their lives.
Given the magnitude of this particular case, it demanded more than an individual effort by Boris himself.
“There were a number of law firms that handled these cases. Everybody had a different role in [reaching] a resolution, and the collaboration between all parties is what made this happen,” Boris explains. “In our world, that does not happen very often.
“This was an undertaking by some of the biggest and the best law firms in California. They came together, put aside egos and differences, and [became] a well-oiled machine – which, from what I know, is the largest settlement against a municipality in history.”
“The law plays the great equalizer. Everybody’s equal before the law. You can be a down-on-your-luck individual or you can be a giant corporation. Everybody’s treated equal. That’s what attracted me to the law.”

A Partner That Helps Hold the Powerful Accountable
Litigating complex, high-stakes cases requires more than legal skill. It requires significant resources, preparation, and endurance. Boris himself has said that the anatomy of a case has changed significantly in the last couple of decades.
“We’re battling some well-established, well-funded opponents,” Boris explains. “As a trial lawyer, your ability to provide the best case, hire the best experts, create the best exhibits, and tell the best narrative depends on your resources to do so.”
For Boris and ACTS Law, advocating for individuals harmed by big corporations or large municipalities depends on reliable support.
“Esquire Bank gives us access to the resources we need in order to take on the biggest opponents like insurance companies and large corporations,” Boris says.
“[They are] our key resource to leveling the playing field. With Esquire on our side, we can access the capital we need to organize a sophisticated, meaningful case that could span years.”
The Guardians of Safety
Boris believes trial law exists to protect people when systems fail, and his firm’s relationship with Esquire provides the resources they need to keep it that way.
“Trial lawyers in today’s world provide the safety that [society] requires,” says Boris. “Because large corporations are interested in making the most money, not making their products the safest they can be.
“[Trial lawyers are here] to deliver justice to those harmed if a big company makes a product unsafe. We are the consequences. We make sure that your life is safe because we are the guardians of your safety.”
